Connor James Lees, a 6-year veteran of the LAFD, was off duty on December 4th, 2024 and doing recreational diving with friends in the Port of Long Beach. He never resurfaced from one of the dives. After a large scale technical search, on December 6th, he was presumed lost at sea and recovery efforts were concluded. His body was later recovered by the Long Beach Police Department on March 28th, 2025.

"Connor James Lees, a 6-year veteran of the LAFD primarily serving the Crenshaw district in his tenure, was an infectious soul to be around with a mellow attitude and tenacious work ethic. As good of a firefighter and friend that Connor was so many; he is more than that. Connor is first a son and a brother to three siblings, two sisters and one brother, significant other, and friend raised in Seal Beach, CA. His family bond is something to be desired by everyone and lived by few. The Lees family is one of the most helpful and welcoming people you could ever meet. This led Connor to follow in his fathers’ footsteps not only for a life of public service but a love of the water as well. He was a Seal Beach Lifeguard with his father and friends for years. He never quit serving his community as he was still life guarding on his days off from the LAFD. Connor was an avid waterman, he would regularly surf and recreationally dive as much as possible. Being in the water was more than a hobby, it was a way of life for Connor. So much so that he would manage to get days at work covered last minute if a good surf was expected that day. Connor lived life to the fullest in every way possible, doing what he loved and being with those he loved daily. He was known for being naturally good at everything he did from a sport he had never tried before to things he did regularly. In his friend group he would always have the largest Lobster you’d ever seen or rode the best wave of the day. Either way he was out longer than he said and no matter how mad his family or significant other got his smile made it all melt away. For those that were lucky enough to experience his energy know that whatever was wrong his presence alone could fix it. Connors memory will live on forever with those he loved as they tell the stories of this great man for years to come." - Loved ones of Connor
